I disagree. If each side of the equation is divided by 5, the result is x2 = 4. By the square root property of equality, x = -2 or x = 2. So x could be -2 instead of 2.

we have

5x^{2}=20

solve for x

Divide by 5 both sides

5x^{2}/5=20/5

x^{2}=4

square root both sides

\sqrt{x^{2}} =\sqrt{4}

x=(+/-)2

so

the solutions are

x1=2\\\\x2=-2

therefore

<u>the answer is</u>

I disagree because x could be -2 instead of 2.

Which is the simplified form of n Superscript negative 6 p cubed?
evablogger [386]

Answer:

Third option. \frac{p^3}{n^{6}}

Step-by-step explanation:

For this exercise you need to remember one of the properties for exponents.

There is a property called the "Negative property of exponents" which states the following:

b^{-n}=\frac{1}{b^n}

Where b \neq0

As you can observe,  b^n is the reciprocal of b^{-n}

In this case you have the following expression given in the exercise:

n^{-6}p^3

Observe the expression. As you can notice, the base "n" has a negative exponent, which is -6.

Therefore, applying the Negative property of exponents explained at the beginning of this explanation, you can simplify the expression.

Then, the simplified form of  n^{-6p^3} is the one shown below:

n^{-6}p^3=\frac{p^3}{n^{6}}

The number of comic books is an illustration of a linear function

  • The complete equations are: \mathbf{8b + 17 =65} and \mathbf{b =6}
  • The value of b has increased by 4

She had 17 comic books already.

So, we have:

\mathbf{Base\ Amount = 17}

Her order of 65 books contains 8 comic books per collection.

So, we have:

\mathbf{Rate = 8}

\mathbf{Total = 65}

This is represented as:

\mathbf{Rate \times b + Base\ Amount =Total}

So, we have:

\mathbf{8\times b + 17 =65}

Rewrite as:

\mathbf{8b + 17 =65}

Subtract 17 from both sides

\mathbf{8b =48}

Divide both sides by 8

\mathbf{b =6}

Assume she has 97 books in her collection, then the equation would be represented as:

\mathbf{8b + 17 = 97}

Subtract 17 from both sides

\mathbf{8b  = 80}

Divide both sides by 8

\mathbf{b  = 10}

The values of b are 6 and 10.

The difference between 6 and 10 is 4

Hence, the value of b has increased by 4

Renee is hiking a trail that is 9¾ miles long. Renee hiked for 4¼ miles. After resting, Renee then hiked for 3½ miles. How many
Inessa [10]

Renee needs to hike 2 miles  to finish the hiking trail

The first step is to add the both miles

She hiked for 4 1/4 miles= 17/4

After resting she then hiked for another 3 1/2 miles= 7/2

17/4 + 7/2

= 31/4

The hiking trail is 9 3/4

To find the number of miles let to finish the trail, let's subtract 31/4 from 9 3/4

39/4 -31/4

= 8/4

= 2

Hence Renee needs to hike for 2 miles to finish the hiking trail
