John Maynard Keynes proposed that increasing government expenditures and lowering taxes would stimulate demand and pull the economy out of a state of depression. His approach sought to generate demand by having the government intervene to "jump start" economic activity. This differed from all the "belt-tightening" and restrictive approaches that others advocated. President Roosevelt's New Deal program sought to put Keynesian economic theory into practice.

The Soviet Union's launch of Sputnik was really a wake up call for the United States. America was still basking in the glory of winning World War ll and thought that they were the best and that no one could beat them. When we realized that the Soviets were ahead of us in the space race, President Kennedy scrambled to catch up (NASA was created). But, no one was really sure about what Sputnik did. Citizens thought that it could tap into radio waves and spy on them or take pictures of what they were doing (It was really just a satellite), but the unknown really scared Americans.
The terms corruption and scalawag both have to do about
going south, this makes the two words connected with each other. Scalawags were
known as the southern whites. After the
American Civil War, they supported the Republican Party and the reconstruction.
