The colonial domination of the Middle East by the west is a historical region why this region has become a training ground for terrorism. The local populace has never been overly keen on being exploited as the local populace of the Middle East has been exploited. This has led to long-term resentment of the Western nations.
Upset, is the feeling being portrayed in the story. "Pinching at my face", would be body language to describe that feeling and to show the reader how upset the author is.
