The correct answer to this open question is the following.

What American colonists felt about the role of Britain in the affairs of the new world was that the English tried to oppress them and exploit the raw materials of the North American territories. The 13 colonies were heavily taxed by the English government with the Stamp Act, the Navigation Acts or the Intolerable Acts. The colonists also were angered against England for the fact that the colonies had no voice or representation in the British Parliament. This situation affected the shape of democracy in the United States in that the colonies supported each other a started the Revolutionary War of Independence in 1775. Then, the founding fathers promulgated the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, drafted by prominent American Thomas Jefferson, Robert Livingston, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, and Jhon Admas.
