These are a popular addition to the Christmas table throughout the UK. What wouldn’t you find inside?

History

The British have an addiction to the Christmas table, and these are Christmas crackers, very similar to party poppers, which Americans use in the New Year's Eve; just that the Christmas crackers have silk paper crowns inside their packaging, which the British traditionally use at their Christmas tables. The custom of wearing paper crowns is very common in England and dates back to the feasts of the ancient Romans, who wore crowns at the December festival, called Saturnalia. The paper crowns were included within the Christmas crackers at the beginning of the 20th century.
