They argued in favor of separation of powers: the division of the government into three separate branches whose powers balance each other. They felt this would be necessary and helpful. On the other hand, Anti-Federalists were fearful that the separation of powers would not equally balance power. They did not believe that this separation could occur in a fair way.

• The Missouri Compromise: Missouri was admitted into the Union as a slave state, but to balance the number of slave/non-slave states, Maine was taken away from Massachusetts and mad a non-slave state. 
<span>• Slave Trade Compromise: The Constitution didn't allow for the end of slavery for at least 20 years. </span>
