Two or three of the boys had long been persons of consideration among us because they had been to St. Louis once and had a vague

general knowledge of its wonders, but the day of their glory was over now. They lapsed into a humble silence, and learned to disappear when the ruthless "cub"-engineer approached. This fellow had money, too, and hair-oil. Also an ignorant silver watch and a showy brass watch-chain. He wore a leather belt and used no suspenders. If ever a youth was cordially admired and hated by his comrades, this one was.

In this excerpt from Old Times on the Mississippi by Mark Twain, he tells the story of how he began training as a riverboat pilot. In it, he introduces the character of the "cub-engineer". Here, Twain uses his characterization (the way he presents the character) to let us know how much he dislikes this dude. There are many ways in which to describe hair grease, but Twain chose "Oil-hair" (not nice to say). That and his "ignorant silver watch and a showy brass watch-chain" give us more details about how the author perceived this person (not very positively, of course).

arsen [322]

The commandment "All animals are equal" is not being followed in the first five chapters of the novel. One example is that Napoleon was treated better than all the other animals and constantly mistreated everyone. Another example is that the pigs relaxed and did nothing all day while the other animals had to work. The pigs were treated like royalty in comparison to the other animals.

Rahim is interested in studying the expanded role of gender in pop culture. He plans on using textual analysis. What types of me
nikdorinn [45]

Textual analysis, as part of the metodolgy of Content analysis, works as a good technique to gather information from other people to see how they see the world, members of various cultures. Different information can be analyzed such as that contained in pictures, text, audio or video. Textual analysis of course is using only written text.

For the specific topic of the expanded role of gender in pop culture a good source of media are the blogs online which is a discussion or informational website with diary-style text entries people can make a blog (post some text) and it gets displayed in reverse chronological order, so the most recent post appears first, at the top of the web page, Whe someone makes a blog it is people that want to inform others sharing information and their points of view. Some of them are really prepared and even have a college degree from some university in gender studies, and they post online, which is a pop media platform; therefore, they would be the best source of information and it could provide us with examples of historic actions that prove that gender roles have changed.

Nowadays you can have a diferent biological gender that the one you represent, example of this is Angela Ponce a transgender born male in Spain competing on the female miss universe contest.
