The plant fibers are consists of individual cells these cells are the sclerenchyma cells. These cells usually have thick cell wall and also posses the high length to diameter ratio. The basic function of these cells in the fibers is to provide mechanical strength to the plant.

The plant fibers can be seen in leaves, seeds, pods, stems and roots.
