I would submit that it was mainly economic. Slaves just weren't profitable in the north, particularly during the industrial revolution. It's a whole lot easier to get rid of something that you don't really need. In fact, slavery was beginning to die off in the south until the cotton gin made plantations profitable again.

How was leisure time different on farms compared to cities?
Arisa [49]

Answer:

One of the ways leisure time was different on farms than in cities was the fact that farms were a lot more spacious than in cities. Leisure times on farms mostly consisted of just sitting and relaxing or playing games like chess. Leisure time's in cities were a bit different because there was a lot more fun things to do in the city like going to play's and etc.

Hope this helps!

Hatshy [7]

A: They created jobs and stimulated the economy.

The construction of the "Liberty ships" to transport troops and goods to the war required a labor force able to accomplish heavy industrial and mechanical work.

Former farmers were given wages much higher than they had ever been offered before. Consequently, the Georgians average income doubled, and many of them turned from farming to manufacturing.
