Answer: The correct answer is fat.

Explanation:

Though, our body uses carbohydrates as the primary source of energy but fats provide more energy and heat as compared to the carbs.

Each gram of fat provides 9 Kcal of energy as compared to 4 Kcal of energy produced by carbs or proteins.

In addition, fats or lipids are long term energy reserves of the body. So, they are able to provide you energy during long duration of physical activity such as hiking.

Fats also help in making an insulating layer around the body which decreases the surface lost of heat and thus, help in keeping you warm.

You must pack food that has high concentrations of fat and protein. Food like granola bars and canned meat are a good source of energy and heat. This is because the body breaks this food down easily converting it into usable energy. Though some people would suggest that you pack food that are high in carbohydrates, fats and proteins are long-term sources of energy that you would need for your hiking trip.

Suppose that you have a particular S. cerevisiae mutant strain that cannot make the amino acid leucine. Will the strain grow on
Ronch [10]

Answer:

The amino acids are important for the growth of almost all the organisms from the yeast to humans. While culturing yeast at the lab conditions, proper growth media is required.

The yeast is not able to make leucine. When this yeast is grown in the YPD plate, the growth of yeast is supported. The YPD consists of peptones, glucose and yeast extract. This media is enriched with all the components required for the yeast growth. The SD plate is also known as synthetic plate  that do not contain the essential amino acids and consists of only nitrogenous bases. The mutant yeast will unable to grown in this media as leucine is not available. The mutant can be grown on this plate if the plate is supplied with the external media consisting of leucine and other essential amino acids.

Lynn Margulis developed the endosymbiont theory to explain the evolution of certain eukaryotic organelles, such as chloroplasts
SashulF [63]

Answer:

The answer is: letter C, The cell took in another ancient prokaryotic cell, which began living inside it.

Explanation:

"Endosymbiotic Theory" states that<em> certain eukaryotic organelles evolved when multiple cells merged together.</em> So, this created a <em>"symbiotic relationship"</em> among them. The organism that lives inside the other organism is called the "endosymbiont."

An example of this are the eukaryotic cells, which took in a <em>prokaryotic cell</em> (such as the ancient chloroplasts and mitochondrion). These ancient prokaryotes used to be free-living. They were often engulfed by another cell. However, in this theory, they are not killed; rather, the host cell helps it to thrive. <u>This caused the organelles to evolve together with the host cell.</u>

Thus, this explains the answer.

The induced fit model of enzyme activity suggests which of the following?
nasty-shy [4]
<h3><u>Answer;</u></h3>

C) The binding of substrate changes the conformation of the active site to bind substrate more tightly.

<h3><u>Explanation;</u></h3>
  • Induced fit theory is the idea that the substrate plays a role in determining the final shape of the enzyme and that the enzyme is partially flexible. Other molecules may be too small to induce the proper alignment and therefore cannot react.
  • Only the proper substrate is capable of inducing the proper alignment of the active site.
  • Induced fit model asserts that when the active site on the enzymes makes contact with the proper substrate, the enzyme molds itself to the shape of the molecule.
