You can always just do 136/1000 and call it good. The way to look at it is, move the decimal places over as many times necessary to have nothing on the right side, then take that new number. Now, make sure you know how many decimal places you moved it, because you are going to do 1### where the #'s are 0's for how many decimal spots you used. I realize this is convoluted so here's some examples.

.12 as a fraction is 12/100 since I moved the decimal two places to the right so it was 1 and 2 zeros.
.134 as a fraction is 134/1000 since I moved the decimal 3 places to the right, so it was 1 and 3 zeros for 1000.

Write an equation for the nth term of each geometric sequence: <br> 1) 2,-6,18,…<br> 2) 5,10,20,…
Inga [223]

Answer:

see explanation

Step-by-step explanation:

The nth term of a geometric sequence is

a_{n} = a₁ r^{n-1}

where a₁ is the first term and r the common ratio

(1)

a₁ = 2 and r = \frac{a_{2} }{a_{1} } = \frac{-6}{2} = - 3 , then

a_{n} = 2 -3)^{n-1}

(2)

a₁ = 5 and r = \frac{10}{5} = 2 , then

a_{n} = 5 (2)^{n-1}

3x<br> Are 10 - 20 and 5(2 - 20) equivalent expressions? Explain.
Nutka1998 [239]

Answer:

No.

Step-by-step explanation:

Take the second expression: 5(2 - 20)

To solve, you must distribute the 5 to all terms within the parenthesis:

5(2 - 20) = (5 * 2) - (5 * 20) = 10 - 100 = -90

On the other hand:

10 - 20 = -30

∴ the two expressions are not equivalent.
