Robinson got up and with great effort walked to the spring, and there he cooled his burning feet and gathered some large leaves,

which he bound on them. He decided to remain in his cave a few days, for he had enough food stored up to last him some length of time, and he planned how he might make himself a pair of shoes. As soon as his feet were well, he sought out some thick bark and put fastenings of tough, strong fiber on it. These served very well to protect his feet, but he needed to have some further protection from the sun. It beamed so hot that his hat was not enough, so he made an umbrella out of leaves like his hat.
Which is the best summary of the paragraph?
A.
Robinson cools his feet in the spring after he accidently burns them. Later, he uses some thick bark and strong fiber to make a pair of shoes for himself.
B.
Robinson makes himself a pair of shoes to protect his feet from burning. Later, he makes an umbrella out of leaves to cover himself from the sun.
C.
Robinson decides to remain in the cave for a few days, as his feet burn and he finds it difficult to walk. He stocks the cave with food that will last for days.
D.
Robinson finds the sun too hot and decides to stay inside the cave for a while. He feels glad to have stocked the cave with enough food to last for days.

Answer:

B

Explanation:

This is the best summary because the main activities done by Robinson were the making of the shoes and of the umbrella. These two objects were made to protect him from the elements, and while they were indeed made in the cave, this was only the place where he happened to be staying.

C does not make sense because it doesn't mention the umbrella or the hat; D is not the best option because it only talks about the Sun and the cave, and A is not ideal because it only talks about his feet and not the Sun.

List the four steps of the writing process covered in this lesson and explain why each one is important. Explain why brainstormi
grandymaker [24]

The writing process can be described as a recursive process.  For many years, it was considered that writing was linear, and that 5 steps were needed:

Prewriting:  It's similar to Brainstorming. You organize your thoughts, your ideas. You plan how the text should be organized.

Drafting: It is your first attempt. Forget about grammar.

Revising: Now, you can add things, re-arrange words or paragraphs, take out.

Proofreading: this is the editing time. Mistakes, tenses should be considered. Clarity is essential.

Publishing: final stage. Ready to print or handed in toyour teacher

But in further research, it was proved that those stages overlap, as they are repeated throughout the writing process.

BRAINSTORMING is a helpful step to take before writing as you put into paper all your ideas ( you may use all or some of them) It is opening your mind to any idea that comes, however crazy it sounds.

COVER LETTER There are some key elements that should be considered when writing a cover letter:

  • Begin with your contact information ( on the left of the paper, towards the top,in block)
  • Don't forget the date as with any normal letter!
  • Include to who this letter is addressed ( hiring manager, head of the recruiting department, etc)
  • Formal salutation
  • Opening paragraph (explain how you learned about the opening position)
  • Middle paragraph ( a summary of your background and why you are suitable for this job)
  • Contact information and closing ( explain when you are available, thanks the person for his/her time and consideration)
