The record for the Boston Marathon's wheelchair division is 1 hour, 18 minutes, and 27 seconds.

a) The Boston Marathon is 26.2 miles long. What was the average speed of the record winner of the wheelchair division?

b) At this rate, about how long would take it take this competitor to complete a 30-mile race?

First we have to convert the record time to hours.

18 minutes = 18minutes÷60minutes/h = 0.3 hours

27 seconds = 27÷3600seconds/h = 0.0075 hours

Total record time = 1 hour + 0.3 hour + 0.0075 hour = 1.3075 hours

Average speed = 26.2 miles/1.3075 hour = 20.03824 ml/h

Answer a) Average speed rounded to the nearest hundredth ≈ 20.04 ml/h

Time = distance/speed = 30 ml/20.04 ml/h = 1.497 hours

0.497 hours *60minutes/hour = 29.82 minutes

0.82 minutes *60seconds/minute = 49.2 seconds

Answer b) 1 hour, 29 minutes, and 49 seconds

Hope this helps!

Write the linear equation that gives the rule for this table.
Maksim231197 [3]

to get the equation of any straight line all we need is two points, well, let's just grab them from the table.

hmmm let's use (-49 , -39) and hmmm say (67 , 77)

(\stackrel{x_1}{-49}~,~\stackrel{y_1}{-39})\qquad (\stackrel{x_2}{67}~,~\stackrel{y_2}{77}) \\\\\\ \stackrel{slope}{m}\implies \cfrac{\stackrel{rise} {\stackrel{y_2}{77}-\stackrel{y1}{(-39)}}}{\underset{run} {\underset{x_2}{67}-\underset{x_1}{(-49)}}}\implies \cfrac{77+39}{67+49}\implies \cfrac{116}{116}\implies 1

\begin{array}{|c|ll} \cline{1-1} \textit{point-slope form}\\ \cline{1-1} \\ y-y_1=m(x-x_1) \\\\ \cline{1-1} \end{array}\implies y-\stackrel{y_1}{(-39)}=\stackrel{m}{1}(x-\stackrel{x_1}{(-49)}) \\\\\\ y+39=1(x+49)\implies y+39=x+49\implies y=x+10
