A linear function is one whose formula can be written in the form

Ax + By = C  where A, B, C are real numbers and A, B are not both 0.  (This is standard form, too.)

\frac{x+4}{2} = \frac{y-4}{3}

"Cross multiply."

3(x+4) = 2(y-4) \\ 3x+12 = 2y-8

Subtract 12.

3x=2y-20

Subtract 2y.

3x-2y=-20

This matches up with standard form with A = 3, B = -2, C = -20.

It's a linear function.

\frac{(7 {x}^{2}  {y}^{4} ) ^{2} }{49 {x}^{6}  {y}^{5} } \\  =   \frac{ {7}^{2} {x}^{2 \times 2}   {y}^{4 \times 2} }{49 {x}^{6}  {y}^{5} }  \\  =  \frac{49{x}^{4}  {y}^{8} } {49 {x}^{6}  {y}^{5}} \\  =   {x}^{4 - 6} {y}^{8 - 5}  \\  =  {x}^{ - 2}  {y}^{3}  \\  =  \frac{y ^{3} }{ {x}^{2} }

<u>Answer:</u>
