The Germans thought Calais was the likely landing site for an Allied invasion because the Allies made them think that's what they were planning.
The Allies employed various strategies, code named "Operation Fortitude," which were intended to deceive the Germans in advance of the planned Normandy invasion. They built up phony infrastructure for possible invasions, on at Calais just across the English Channel, another as a northern incursion via Norway. They also leaked phony intelligence reports that would find their way into German hands. So Calais seemed logistically sound not only because it was directly across the Channel from Allied positions in Britain, but because the Allies were wanting the Germans to think that was a possible plan they were making. The deception was meant to give the actual invasion at Normandy a better chance for success.
Separation of powers is the idea that power in a government should be broken up or divided. This is shown in the US government with the 3 branches of government. The Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branches work together yet separately to run the government. This makes sure that no one person or group can control the government, and all branches have to agree. This ties into checks and balances, where each government branch makes sure the others are doing their job and being responsible.
They would divide Germany in two. The Allies would get most of west Germany and split it between 3 occupation zones, French, British, and American. The Comintern would get most of East Germany and most of the countries East of Berlin would be turned into Soviet satellite states.

Answers may vary. A good answer would include 3–4 specific examples drawn from the reading materials. For example, you might focus on how slavery became a racial institution rather than something that followed a war between two peoples. Unlike the form of slavery that existed in Africa and the Middle East, people became permanently enslaved and so did their children. Slavery in the Americas was practiced for the purposes of creating profit and the scale was unprecedented. Also, Europeans justified slavery by reframing Africans as less than human due to their skin color, cultural differences, and religious beliefs.
Answers may vary. A good answer would include 3–4 specific examples drawn from the reading materials. One might point to the acts of resistance that enslaved people took, such as running away, breaking tools, refusing to work, or taking part in revolts. A good answer will consider what resistance is and why it was important. Some may believe that resistance was ultimately futile, while others might point to how it gave people power, even if they remained enslaved.
