After supporting the independence of Israel, the United States was most concerned with not upsetting the oil-producing Arab nations. Arab nations were upset about the creation of Israel in 1948 because some of their territory was taken away in the process. Though the U.S. supported Israel, it also needed to maintain good relations with oil-producing Arab nations. America depended on these nations for a large amount of its oil at this time.
