How to cross cancel fractions for example 3/5 •15/18

Here is how you cross cancel these fractions:
\frac{3}{5} * \frac{15}{18}
We can start by observing that 18 is a multiple of 3, and it is obtained by multiplying 3 by 6.
So... We can cross out 3 and put a 1 in its place, and we can do the same for 18 but instead by putting a 6 in its place.
This is what we have now:
\frac{1}{5} * \frac{15}{6}
However, we are not done yet, we can see that 15 is a multiple of 5, which can be obtained by multiplying 5 by 3.
Therefore... We can cross out 5 and put a 1 in its place, and we can cross out 15 and put a 3 in its place. This is what we have now:
\frac{1}{1} * 3/6
Now, we can simplify the expression above to get 1/2, or 0.5 in decimal form. Hope this helps and have a nice day!

You would do 15 divided by 5 equals 3, and 5 divided by 5 equals 1, so it would turn into 3/1 times 3/18. Then,18 divided by 3 equals 6, and 3 divided by 3 equals 1, so the final answer would be 1/1 times 3/6, which equals 1/2 or 3/6.

Thaddeus and lan start at the same location and drive in opposite directions, but leave at different times. When they are 365 mi
LUCKY_DIMON [66]

Answer:

 • Thaddeus: 7 h
 • Ian: 9 h

Step-by-step explanation:

If Thaddeus drives the whole 16 hours, the distance between them is ...

 distance = speed · time

 distance = 20 mi/h · 16 h

 distance = 320 miles.

It is 45 miles more than that. For each hour that Ian drives, their separation distance increases by (25 mph -20 mph)·(1 h) = 5 mi. Then Ian must have driven ...

 (45 mi)/(5 mi/h) = 9 h

The rest of the 16 hours is the time that Thaddeus drove: 7 hours.

___

Let x represent the time Ian drives. Then 16-x is the time Thaddeus drives. Their total distance driven is ...

 distance = speed · time

 365 mi = (25 mi/h)(x) + (20 mi/h)(16 h -x)

 45 mi = (5 mi/h)(x) . . . . . . . . subtract 320 miles, collect terms

 (45 mi)/(5 mi/h) = x = 9 h . . . . . . divide by the coefficient of x

_____

Comment on the solution

You may notice a similarity between the solution of this equation and the verbal discussion above. (That is intentional.) It works well to let a variable represent the amount of the highest contributor. Here, that is Ian's time, since he is driving at the fastest speed.

For wages less than the maximum taxable wage base, Social Security contributions (including those for Medicare) by employees are
marin [14]

Answer:

y = 0.0765x

Step-by-step explanation:

We have that:

y is the total taxes paid.

x is the total wages earned.

The total taxes paid is a function of the total wages earned.

For wages less than the maximum taxable wage base, Social Security contributions (including those for Medicare) by employees are 7.65% of the employee's wages.

So 7.65% of the total wages earned are paid in taxes. We write the percentage as a decimal, so 7.65/100 = 0.0765

So the answer for a) is:

y = 0.0765x
