This problem is bigger because its aftermath kept the African American community still under certain oppression by a white majority in the southern states, leading to the need for more reform in the XX century.

If there is conflict between a free state and slave states, it's very obvious why. Slave states have people working and working everyday and night, but in free states people get to do what they would like, whenever they'd like.
