<em><u>Answer:</u></em>

  • The characters in both stories love nature.

For the characters in the two books, the scene is something completely extraordinary. It is a joining power, a departure, a threat, and above all an image of the considerations of Antonia and Huck, the focal characters. The two scenes vary clearly in appearance. The occasionally fierce, at times tranquil waters of the Mississippi, changing course with each ship that moves down along it, balance obviously with the moving prairies of the eternity level fields of Nebraska and the southwest. Neither appears to have a start or an end, proceeding on forever.

The correct answer is B. While someone else is eating or opening a window or just walking dully along.

Suffering, in Auden's (and old masters') view, is not a drastic case of the human condition. Auden doesn't single it out to depict it in its tragic magnificence. He puts it in the context of ordinary lives of people who mind their own business. It happens in circumstances that are most trivial for those other people. It seems that everyone is either ignorant or indifferent to another person's suffering.
