We know already that desk A and desk B are on the same column, since both coordinates' x factors are 7. So all we need to do now is find the differeance of 2 and -8. So, we get the [very simple] equation 2 - (-8) = d. Now, when you subtract a negative, it's pretty much just adding, so we can simplify this equation to 2 + 8 = d, and we all know 2 + 8 = 10. So the distance between the two desks is 10 units.

Hope this helps! If there is anything wrong feel free to point it out.

Have a nice day!

Charlotte reads 8 1/3 pages of a book in 10 minutes. What is her average reading rate in pages per minute?
sukhopar [10]
8\frac{1}{3} = \frac{25}{3}

25/3 pages of a book in 10 minutes

Multiply both numbers by the reciprocal of 10, which is 1/10

\frac{25}{3} \times\frac{1}{10} = \frac{25}{30}=\frac{5}{6}

10\times\frac{1}{10}= 1

So, Charlotte reads 5/6 pages of a book in 1 minute.

How are y-intercepts of y=(1/3)^x and y=5(1/3)^x different?
loris [4]
Remark.
The easiest way to do this question is to graph it. Start with that.
The red line is y = (1/3)^x
The blue line is y = 5*(1/3)^x

Comment
The red line's y intercept is (0,1)
The blue line's y intercept is (0,5)

Why
If the x value is 0 then (1/3)^0 = 1
y = (1/3)^0 = 1 * 1 = 1 and for the blue graph
y =  5*(1/3)^0 = 5*1 = 5

In other words, in this set of equations, the 5 makes the y intercept 5 times larger than the 1 in front of y = (1/3)^x

If you have choices, could you please list them? I may be giving you the right answer but not in the form required.
