Paragraph 2 states that Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in Maryland. Analyze how this event affected other individuals
Nutka1998 [239]

Douglass' birth as a slave allows readers to understand the hardships and sufferings he went through, as well as allowing readers to understand the importance of reading to him.

We can arrive at this answer because:

  • The fact that Douglass was born a slave lays the foundation for understanding all the events in the rest of the text.
  • This is because being born a slave meant that Douglass did not know his birth date, had no home, was estranged from his family, suffered various abuses, and was prevented from accessing education.
  • All these factors promoted a very difficult life, which justifies why Douglass fights for the liberation of slaves.

In this case, we can say that Douglass wanted to establish how suffering and limitation were present from the beginning of his life, allowing readers to understand from the beginning what he was trying to defend.

In context the word"engetter'd"(line 365) most likely means?
Andrew [12]

Hi. You did not enter the text to which this question refers, which makes it impossible for it to be answered. However, I will try to help you as best I can.

"Engetter" is a word of French origin, which refers to the rejection and expulsion of something or someone. It is likely that in the text to which your question refers, this word has been placed with this meaning, to be sure of this, you should rewrite the sentence by changing the word "engetter" to its meanings and making sure the sentence is coherent. You can also see this by looking at the context of the sentence as a whole and identifying whether that context has something that is being kicked out or rejected.

What are ways that an author can create an Expressionist style? Select all that apply.
Iteru [2.4K]

expressionism is often considered a revolt against realism and naturalism, seeking to achieve a psychological or spiritual reality rather than record external events in logical sequence. In the novel, the term is closely allied to the writing of Franz Kafka and James Joyce (see stream of consciousness).
