Athletes foot is caused by a fungus called Trichophyton. It is also associated to other types of fungi that causes skin infections. Examples are jock itch and ringworm. This occurs when the tinea fungus grows on the feet. It can be acquired by direct contact with people wit this infection or by contact on surfaces with the said organisms.
