Answer:

The correct answer is (D) x=4 or x=-5

Step-by-step explanation:

Step  1  :

Equation at the end of step  1  :

 (3 • (x - 4) • (x + 5)) -  2  = 0

Step  2  :

Equation at the end of step  2  :

 3 • (x - 4) • (x + 5) -  2  = 0

Step  3  :

Trying to factor by splitting the middle term

3.1     Factoring  3x2+3x-62

The first term is,  3x2  its coefficient is  3 .

The middle term is,  +3x  its coefficient is  3 .

The last term, "the constant", is  -62

Step-1 : Multiply the coefficient of the first term by the constant   3 • -62 = -186

Step-2 : Find two factors of  -186  whose sum equals the coefficient of the middle term, which is   3 .

     -186    +    1    =    -185

     -93    +    2    =    -91

     -62    +    3    =    -59

     -31    +    6    =    -25

     -6    +    31    =    25

     -3    +    62    =    59

     -2    +    93    =    91

     -1    +    186    =    185

Observation : No two such factors can be found !!

Conclusion : Trinomial can not be factored

Equation at the end of step  3  :

 3x2 + 3x - 62  = 0

Step  4  :

Parabola, Finding the Vertex :

4.1      Find the Vertex of   y = 3x2+3x-62

Parabolas have a highest or a lowest point called the Vertex .   Our parabola opens up and accordingly has a lowest point (AKA absolute minimum) .   We know this even before plotting  "y"  because the coefficient of the first term, 3 , is positive (greater than zero).

Each parabola has a vertical line of symmetry that passes through its vertex. Because of this symmetry, the line of symmetry would, for example, pass through the midpoint of the two  x -intercepts (roots or solutions) of the parabola. That is, if the parabola has indeed two real solutions.

Parabolas can model many real life situations, such as the height above ground, of an object thrown upward, after some period of time. The vertex of the parabola can provide us with information, such as the maximum height that object, thrown upwards, can reach. For this reason we want to be able to find the coordinates of the vertex.

For any parabola,Ax2+Bx+C,the  x -coordinate of the vertex is given by  -B/(2A) . In our case the  x  coordinate is  -0.5000

Plugging into the parabola formula  -0.5000  for  x  we can calculate the  y -coordinate :

 y = 3.0 * -0.50 * -0.50 + 3.0 * -0.50 - 62.0

or   y = -62.750

Parabola, Graphing Vertex and X-Intercepts :

Root plot for :  y = 3x2+3x-62

Axis of Symmetry (dashed)  {x}={-0.50}

Vertex at  {x,y} = {-0.50,-62.75}

x -Intercepts (Roots) :

Root 1 at  {x,y} = {-5.07, 0.00}

Root 2 at  {x,y} = { 4.07, 0.00}

Solve Quadratic Equation by Completing The Square

4.2     Solving   3x2+3x-62 = 0 by Completing The Square .

Divide both sides of the equation by  3  to have 1 as the coefficient of the first term :

  x2+x-(62/3) = 0

Add  62/3  to both side of the equation :

  x2+x = 62/3

Now the clever bit: Take the coefficient of  x , which is  1 , divide by two, giving  1/2 , and finally square it giving  1/4

Add  1/4  to both sides of the equation :

 On the right hand side we have :

  62/3  +  1/4   The common denominator of the two fractions is  12   Adding  (248/12)+(3/12)  gives  251/12

 So adding to both sides we finally get :

  x2+x+(1/4) = 251/12

Adding  1/4  has completed the left hand side into a perfect square :

  x2+x+(1/4)  =

  (x+(1/2)) • (x+(1/2))  =

 (x+(1/2))2

Things which are equal to the same thing are also equal to one another. Since

  x2+x+(1/4) = 251/12 and

  x2+x+(1/4) = (x+(1/2))2

then, according to the law of transitivity,

  (x+(1/2))2 = 251/12

Note that the square root of

  (x+(1/2))2   is

  (x+(1/2))2/2 =

 (x+(1/2))1 =

  x+(1/2)

Now, applying the Square Root Principle to  Eq. #4.2.1  we get:

  x+(1/2) = √ 251/12

Subtract  1/2  from both sides to obtain:

  x = -1/2 + √ 251/12

Since a square root has two values, one positive and the other negative

  x2 + x - (62/3) = 0

  has two solutions:

 x = -1/2 + √ 251/12

  or

 x = -1/2 - √ 251/12

Note that  √ 251/12 can be written as

 √ 251  / √ 12

           - B  ±  √ B2-4AC

 x =   ————————

                     2A

 In our case,  A   =     3

                     B   =    3

                     C   =  -62

Accordingly,  B2  -  4AC   =

                    9 - (-744) =

                    753

Applying the quadratic formula :

              -3 ± √ 753

  x  =    ——————

                     6

 √ 753   , rounded to 4 decimal digits, is  27.4408

So now we are looking at:

          x  =  ( -3 ±  27.441 ) / 6

Two real solutions:

x =(-3+√753)/6=-1/2+1/6√ 753 = 4.073

or:

x =(-3-√753)/6=-1/2-1/6√ 753 = -5.073

Two solutions were found :

x =(-3-√753)/6=-1/2-1/6√ 753 = -5.073

x =(-3+√753)/6=-1/2+1/6√ 753 = 4.073

sergey [27]

One of the same-side exterior angles formed by two lines and a transversal is equal to 1/6 of the right angle and is 11 times smaller than the other angle. Then the lines are parallel

<h3><u>Solution:</u></h3>

Given that, One of the same-side exterior angles formed by two lines and a transversal is equal to 1/6 of the right angle and is 11 times smaller than the other angle.

We have to prove that the lines are parallel.

If they are parallel, sum of the described angles should be equal to 180 as they are same side exterior angles.

Now, the 1st angle will be 1/6 of right angle is given as:

\begin{array}{l}{\rightarrow 1^{\text {st }} \text { angle }=\frac{1}{6} \times 90} \\\\ {\rightarrow 1^{\text {st }} \text { angle }=15 \text { degrees }}\end{array}

And now, 15 degrees is 11 times smaller than the other

Then other angle = 11 times of 15 degrees

\text {Other angle }=11 \times 15=165 \text { degrees }

Now, sum of angles = 15 + 165 = 180 degrees.

As we expected their sum is 180 degrees. So the lines are parallel.

Hence, the given lines are parallel

The following data summarizes results from 945 pedestrian deaths that were caused by accidents. If one of the pedestrian deaths
VikaD [51]

Answer:

37.67% probability that the pedestrian was intoxicated or the driver was intoxicated.

Step-by-step explanation:

A probability is the number of desired outcomes divided by the number of total outcomes.

In this question:

945 accidents.

In 64 of them, the pedestian was intoxicated.

In 292 of them, the driver was intoxicated.

Probability that the pedestrian was intoxicated or the driver was intoxicated.

(64+292)/945 = 0.3767

37.67% probability that the pedestrian was intoxicated or the driver was intoxicated.
