Average weekly claims for unemployment were 420,000.

The normal weekly average during full employment is 122,000.

To find how many more people we subtract normal weekly average during full employment from average weekly for unemployment

Number of people = 420,000 - 122,000 = 298,000

This is the number of people in a week. Hence, in order to find the number of people in the January month, we have to divide this number by 7 and then multiply by 31.

Because when we divide it by 7, it will give the number of people in 1 day and when multiplied by 31, it will give the number of people in the January month.

Thus, number of more people were filing for unemployment in January 2008 is given by

\frac{ 298,000}{7}\cdot 31\\ \\ =1319714

Answer:

1,192,000 more people were filing for unemployment in January 2008

Step-by-step explanation:

A month has 4 weeks

January 2008:

Weekly claims for unemployment were 420,000.

4*420,000 = 1,680,000

Normal weekly average:

Normal weekly average during full employment is 122,000.

4*122,000 = 488,000

How many more people were filing for unemployment in January 2008?

1,680,000 - 488,000 = 1,192,000

1,192,000 more people were filing for unemployment in January 2008

To solve 8/6 divided by 4/6,think "How many four-sixths are in eight-sixth. What is this answer? Can anyone tell me this answer
Marrrta [24]

Answer:

2

Step-by-step explanation:

Dividing by fractions is the same as multiplying by its reciprocal. So 8/6 divided by 4/6 is the same as 8/6 times 6/4

You can then solve this two ways.

1) Multiply like normal and simplify:

  (8/6)(6/4) = 48/24 = 2.

2) Since there is a 6 in both the numerator and denominator, they cancel each other out. This leaves you with:

(8/1)(1/4). Multiply across like normal to get 8/4 = 2.

A football team wants to by a football. The football costs $51. There are 11 members of the team. How much will each of the team members contribute to be able to purchase the football if they had $29 already.

Solution: Let the amount each team member contributes be x, then
11x + 29 ≥ 51
11x ≥ 51 - 29
11x ≥ 22
x ≥ 22/11
x ≥ 2

I.e. each team member must contribute at least $2 for them to be able to buy the football.

A parabola is graphed such that the axis of symmetry is x = 3. One of the x-intercepts is (5, 0). What is the other x-intercept?
Stells [14]

The axis of symmetry is the fold line that splits the parabola down the middle.

Now, since a parabola is symmetrical, every point, except the vertex, will have a mirror image of another point if we folded the parabola over the axis of symmetry.

So if we know the axis of symmetry is x = 3 and one of our points

has the coordinates (5, 0), the other point will have the coordinates (3, 0).

The axis of symmetry is always halfway between the x-intercepts.

If x − 3 = 1, then what is the value of x² − 3x − 1 ?
Kruka [31]
Let's find x. This will allow us to find the value of the second expression.
x - 3 = 1
x = 4

Now, we can simply plug this x-value into the second expression to obtain 4^2 - 3(4) - 1 = 3.

Thus, our answer is 3.
