The author of this famous letter was C. Albert Einstein. Einstein knew that the technology was possible, and that the science behind the bomb was credible. Nobody knew if the Germans had started yet (they had not), but Einstein urged to US to begin research anyway.

How did the Battle of Bull Run change Americans expectations of the civil war?
GREYUIT [131]

Answer:

The First Battle of Bull Run, also known as the Battle of Manassas, marked the first major land battle of the American Civil War. On July 21, 1861, Union and Confederate armies clashed near Manassas Junction, Virginia. The engagement began when about 35,000 Union troops marched from the federal capital in Washington, D.C. to strike a Confederate force of 20,000 along a small river known as Bull Run. After fighting on the defensive for most of the day, the rebels rallied and were able to break the Union right flank, sending the Federals into a chaotic retreat towards Washington. The Confederate victory gave the South a surge of confidence and shocked many in the North, who realized the war would not be won as easily as they had hoped.

Prelude to the First Battle of Bull Run (Manassas)

By July 1861, two months after Confederate troops opened fire on Fort Sumter to begin the Civil War, the northern press and public were eager for the Union Army to make an advance on Richmond ahead of the planned meeting of the Confederate Congress there on July 20. Encouraged by early victories by Union troops in western Virginia and by the war fever spreading through the North, President Abraham Lincoln ordered Brigadier General Irvin McDowell to mount an offensive that would hit quickly and decisively at the enemy and open the way to Richmond, thus bringing the war to a mercifully quick end. The offensive would begin with an attack on more than 20,000 Confederate troops under the command of General P.G.T. Beauregard camped near Manassas Junction, Virginia (25 miles from Washington, D.C.) along a little river known as Bull Run.

Which three major factors contributed to the Roman Empire’s decline? political insurrections, military rebellions, famine politi
iren [92.7K]

The correct answer is: political instability, military conflict, and economic crisis.

Political instability: at the end of the 4th century AD, the Roman empire was going through a political crisis. While the emperor Theodosius tried to handle the social uprisings between Christians and non-Christians, he was struggling against the usurper Magnus Maximus and the empire was facing cases of corruption in the political sphere that diverted public funds from the military needs. Due to these reasons and for administrative purposes, Theodosius decided to establish Christianity as the official religion of the empire and divided the empire into two parts: the Western Roman Empire, with its capital in Ravenna, and the Eastern Roman Empire, with its capital in Constantinople.

Military conflict: while the Roman Empire was facing these internal problems that weakened it, there were urgent problems in its borders since many barbarian invaders were attacking Roman positions from the outside. The Huns from the East, led by Attila, devastated a great portion of the empire, Saxons invaded Britain, Goths and Lombard people from the North as well invaded Italy and Hispania. The Roman army for the first time was not in the position of facing so many fronts at the same time.

Economic crisis: the enormous Roman administrative device was going through a financial crisis. It was so big that it did not find the necessary resources to satisfy its needs. Gold mines that used to fuel the economy were very far away, difficult to achieve, and the Empire had to make a large number of official coins out of copper provoking a great devaluation of the Roman currency.
