I remember a time in the evening of Spring time, as to when I saw a squirrel pass by. During these times, nuts are sprouting from the trees in my backyard. I observed his movements as this squirrel was digging up his nuts. So, I decided to pick up a closed nut and gently laid my hand down on the grass. Unexpectedly, he moved closer to my hand carefully as he focused on what was in my hand. About 5 minutes later, the squirrel rested in my hand, trying to crack open the nut. It amazed me because it reminds me that before, if you moved a muscle, a squirrel would scurry away. What this squirrel did represented to me about the results of evolution and how animals adapt to living around humans. <span />

Read the passage.
Tema [17]

By the nineteenth century, some of the ancient English families had lost their power, wealth, and influence.

In the passage Tess and Angel are looking at an old house once owned by the d'Urbervilles. Angel says, "There is something very sad in the extinction of a family of renown, even if it was fierce, domineering, feudal renown." This shows that some of the families that were once powerful in England have lost their power, wealth, and influence.
