The telophase (from the Greek telos meaning "end") is the fifth phase (or the fourth, if we do not count the prometaphase) of mitosis. It takes place twice during meiosis.
<u>During this phase:

* chromosomes without kinetochoric microtubules decondensate;
* the polar microtubules stop their elongation;
* the nuclear envelope is reorganized around individual chromosomes;
* The last phase of the telophase is called cytokinesis. This is the separation of the mother cell into two daughter cells. A division furrow separates the cell in two, under the action of an intracellular contractile ring formed of actin microfilaments that are associated with myosin molecules.
