El Taoísmo es diferente, porque va más allá de este mundo. La idea principal de esta filosofía es abrazar el Tao ( la realidad mayor que está compuesta por el universo y todo lo demás). También se centra en la relación de la persona consigo misma para alcanzar la armonía interior. Por lo tanto, está bien decir que  en el confucianismo la persona alcanza la automejora relacionándose con su entorno exterior inmediato, mientras que el taoísmo propone que esa superación se alcanza a partir de uno mismo; es decir, de manera interior.
