The Soviets erected the wall in 1961(or close to there). This was a physical separation between West and East Berlin. The city, families, and friends were separated from one another. In a call for Freedom, Reagan felt that this wall a symbol of keeping freedom out needed to be removed (which happened in 1989)
In 1807, the year the embargo was passed, the total exports for the United States reached $108 million. One year later, that number had declined to just over $22 million. This is a loss of $86 million.
