Answer:

(a)

Step-by-step explanation:

Given the 2 equations

6x + 2y = - 6 → (1)

3x - 4y = - 18 → (2)

Multiplying (1) by 2 and adding to (2) will eliminate the term in y

12x + 4y = - 12 → (3)

Add (2) and (3) term by term

15x = - 30 ( divide both sides by 15 )

x = - 2

Substitute x = - 2 into either (1) or (2) and solve for y

Substituting into (1)

6(- 2) + 2y = - 6

- 12 + 2y = - 6 ( add 12 to both sides )

2y = 6 (divide both sides by 2 )

y = 3

Solution is (- 2, 3)

To determine the system with the same solution.

Substitute the x and y values of the solution into the left side of the equations and if equal to the right side then they are a solution.

(a)

8(- 2) + 4(3) = - 16 + 12 = - 4 = right side

17(- 2) + 2(3) = - 34 + 6 = - 28 = right side

Thus system (a) has the same solution

What is 4 11/12 divided by -4 1/6?
Luden [163]
To get the result first we have to transform those fraction into improper fraction.
4 \frac{11}{12}= \frac{4*12+11}{12}= \frac{59}{12}
-4 \frac{1}{6} =- \frac{4*6+1}{6}=- \frac{25}{6}
We know that if we want to divide 2 fraction we can multiply first by inverse of second fraction. Lets do this
\frac{59}{12}:- \frac{25}{6}= \frac{59}{12}*- \frac{6}{25}    =- \frac{59*6}{12*25}=- \frac{354}{300}=- \frac{59}{30}=-1 \frac{29}{30} - its the answer

Given f(x)=4/5x + 13, find the inverse f-¹(x)<br>Given f(x)= 3/x+10 + 4 find the inverse f-¹(x)
Elodia [21]
  • f-¹(x) = 69/5y
  • f-¹(x) = 13 + 4y/(y + 10)

<h3>How to determine the inverse </h3>

The steps involved in determining the inverse of a function are;

  • Replace f(x) with y in the equation describing the function
  • Interchange x and y
  • Solve for y
  • Replace y by f-1(x)

If f(x) = 4/5x + 13

y = 4/5y + 13

y = 4 + 65 /5y

f^-1 = 4 + 65 /5y

f^-1(x)= 69/5y

If f(x)= 3/x+10 + 4

y = 3/y + 10 + 4

y = 3 + 4y + 10/(y + 10)

y = 13 + 4y/(y + 10)

f^-1(x) = 13 + 4y/(y + 10)

Thus, the inverse of the functions is 69/5y and 13 + 4y/(y + 10)
