A 21.5 g sample of nickel was treated with excess silver nitrate solution to produce silver metal and nickel(II) nitrate. The re
Arte-miy333 [17]

The mass of nickel is 36.5g metal.

Ni+2AgNO3 → Ni(NO3)2+2Ag

21.5g Ni / 58.69g = 0.366mol Ni

Ag = 107.87

N i= 58.69

But, 2molAg per 1 mol Ni, so, change in mass is more like...

Twice as many moles Ag as Ni, and then the mass relationship is 107.87g Ag / 58.69, but due to the 2Ag: 1Ni mol ratio, the change in mass is like:

107.87(2) / 58.69 = 3.68 times increase

So, the final mass of Ag is 3.68x, and the change in mass of Ni is x

36.5=(21.5-x)+(3.68x)

Solve for x

x=5.597

3.68x=g Ag

3.68(5.597)=20.59

21.5 - x = g Ni after reaction

21.5 - 5.597 = 15.903g Ni

20.59g Ag + 15.903g Ni = 36.5g metal

The mass of nickel is 36.5g metal.

do you mean fractional distillation of crude oil ?

if you do then this is what happens:

basically, crude oil is made up of a lot of hydrocarbons so it's put into a fracitonating column to separate these compounds into fractions. the top of the fractionating column is colder whereas the bottom of the column is hotter.

gases, petrol, diesel and kerosene come out near the top of the top of the column because they are shorter chains. substances near the top of the column also have a lower boiling point (since it's cooler and there's less intermolecular forces).

the substances at the top of the column are typically useful fuels because they have a higher ease of ignition (higher up=easier to ignite, lower down = harder to ignite). Also, substances at the top have a low viscosity so they can flow easily.

substances that come out near the bottom of the fracitonating column include fuel oil and bitumen.

these are longer chains of hydrocarbons and bitumen is used for road surfacing.

these substances have a high viscosity (harder to flow) and have a high boiling point since they have more intermolecular forces which require a lot of energy to break. Also the bottom of the fractionating column is warmer and this is where these fractions are released.

Which of the following is a correct statement?
Maru [420]

Answer:

Reflection takes place from the polished smooth surfaces

Explanation:

A vacuum does not refer to an opaque body. An opaque body does not allow light to pass through it while a vacuum is simply empty space without air.

A smooth polished surface often acts as a mirror, it is a good reflector of light.

The moon is a non luminous body in the sky. It merely reflects the light from the sun.

A Pinhole camera can not take pictures of moving objects because it only focuses on any image placed before it.

Shadows are not inverted, the always appear upright.

Which answer below correctly identifies the type of change and the explination for the boiling of water
katrin [286]
Answer:

Physical change because even though gas formation was observed, the water was undergoing a state change, which means that its original properties are preserved.

Explanation:

Water boiling results in the physical state changing from solid to gaseous water. This moment can be called boiling or vaporizing, which is the change from liquid to gaseous state by heating water. Thus, the "Boiling Point" (PE) of a substance is the temperature at which that substance changes from liquid to gaseous state and, in the case of water, is 100 ° C. When the water reaches this temperature its physical change occurs because, despite the formation of gas, the water was undergoing a state change, which means that its original properties are preserved.
