Slaves had to devise some actions to avoid the heavy work done in the fields. Of course, there were rebellions and revolts in some parts of the Southern states. But slaves also showed resistant causing self-damage in order to not to work. Another form of resistance was acting sick. Pretending to be sick, they stayed away from the harsh work for a while. And finally, many slaves running away, to escape from the fields.
