Una de las consecuencias positivas de la Revolución Industrial fue la creación de muchos empleos para poder manejar las nuevas máquinas que fabricaban los productos en las industrias. Miles de campesinos que vivían en las zonas rurales decidieron cambiarse a las grandes ciudades donde estaban las industrias. La desventaja fue que esos empleos eran mal pagados, los trabajadores laboraban demasiadas horas al día y trabajaban en condiciones insalubres y riesgosas.
Hoy en día, las leyes han protegido de alguna manera a los trabajadores de las industrias. Sin embargo, la mayoría sigue siendo explotado. Trabajan arduamente 8 horas al día -algunos incluyendo sábados- y les pagan muy poco. Otros trabajan sin contrato, o por honorarios, y no tienen protección de la seguridad social.
Esas industrias ofrecen trabajo pero mal pagado. Los gobiernos les condonan impuestos con tal de que se instalen en su territorio, aunque descuidan el factor humano.
