It is increase, because 15 is less than 18. Other way around, if the question is 18 to 15 yards, then that would be decrease, because it is getting smaller.

15 to 18 yards is increasing because it goes up three times

Andre is in charge of cooking brócoli and zucchini for a large group he had to spend all 17$ he has and Cary 10 pounds of veggie
nataly862011 [7]

Answer:

This is an example of equation with two unknowns. Andre bought x pounds of zucchini and y pounds of broccoli and we also know that there was 10 pounds of veggies in total. So, we can write:

$1.5 • x + $2 • y = $17

x + y = 10

From the second equation we can say that:

y = 10 - x

We can now enter this value of y into the first equation:

1.5 • x + 2 • (10-x) = 17

1.5 • x + 20 - 2 • x = 17

1.5x - 2x = 17 - 20

-0.5x = -3

0.5x = 3

x = 6

If x=6, then y=10-6, which is 4.

That means that Andre bought 6 pounds of zucchini and 4 pounds of broccoli.

Given the legs of a right triangle are a = 21, b = 28, what is the length of the hypotenuse?
Alla [95]

That's a 3 4 5 right triangle scaled by a factor of 7, so the hypotenuse must be 5 times 7.

Answer: 35

Which equation represents a hyperbola with a center at (0, 0), a vertex at (−48, 0), and a focus at (50, 0)?
Lerok [7]

bearing in mind that "a" is the length of the traverse axis, and "c" is the distance from the center to either foci.

we know the center is at (0,0), we know there's a vertex at (-48,0), from the origin to -48, that's 48 units flat, meaning, the hyperbola is a horizontal one running over the x-axis whose a = 48.

we also know there's a focus point at (50,0), that's 50 units from the center, namely c = 50.

\bf \textit{hyperbolas, horizontal traverse axis } \\\\ \cfrac{(x- h)^2}{ a^2}-\cfrac{(y- k)^2}{ b^2}=1 \qquad \begin{cases} center\ ( h, k)\\ vertices\ ( h\pm a, k)\\ c=\textit{distance from}\\ \qquad \textit{center to foci}\\ \qquad \sqrt{ a ^2 + b ^2}\\ \textit{asymptotes}\quad y= k\pm \cfrac{b}{a}(x- h) \end{cases} \\\\[-0.35em] \rule{34em}{0.25pt}

\bf \begin{cases} h=0\\ k=0\\ a=48\\ c=50 \end{cases}\implies \cfrac{(x-0)^2}{48^2}-\cfrac{(y-0)^2}{b^2}=1 \\\\\\ c=\sqrt{a^2+b^2}\implies \sqrt{c^2-a^2}=b\implies \sqrt{50^2-48^2}=b \\\\\\ \sqrt{196}=b\implies 14=b~\hspace{3.5em}\cfrac{(x-0)^2}{48^2}-\cfrac{(y-0)^2}{14^2}=1\implies \cfrac{x^2}{48^2}-\cfrac{y^2}{14^2}=1
