Vasopressin is the hormone synthesized by hypothalamus but stored and secreted by posterior pituitary gland under conditions of dehydration. The hormone stimulates water reabsorption from kidneys and stimulates formation of concentrated urine to prevent loss of water from body. Its secretion is increased with increasing levels of dehydration.
