Many colonists disliked the central government because they incorporated taxes on the citizens without their consent. This was one of the main factors in sparking the American Revolution.

2) Amending the Articles ended in failure, leading to the forming of a Constitution.
The Articles of Confederation only lasted about a decade. The Founding Fathers realized the flaws in this constitution thanks to events like Shay's Rebellion. After much debate, it was decided that the Articles of Confederation would be thrown out and replaced with our current US Constitution.
