The Supreme Court’s decision in United States v. Nixon resulted in Nixon’s resignation. United States v. Nixon, 418 A,683 which was released in 1974, was the United States Supreme Court’s important case which the effect was a unanimous judgment in opposition to President Richard Nixon, commanded him to send recorded tapes and other summon materials to the federal district court.

EXPLANATION:

Decision of the US Supreme Court in the United States v. Richard M. Nixon was a crucial case in U.S. constitutional history and the history of jurisprudence of American. Following indictments by a federal jury of seven senior members of President Richard M. Nixon's administration, and prosecution by prosecutors for recordings made clandestinely by the president's conversation he held at the Oval Office, the president rejected to submit the tapes, citing " executive privilege” as the legal basis under which he would reject to oblige with the judicial branch of government.

In the United States v. Nixon, the Supreme Court, on July 24, 1974, refused the notion that the government's Executive Branch could be invulnerable from the legal requests of other branches of government, where in this case is the Judiciary. While acknowledging that the concept of executive privilege was valid within certain limits which were strictly forbidden, especially those involving foreign affairs and national security, the Court refused Nixon's argument that executive privilege could spread to domestic political matters. In short, the decision of the Supreme Court in the United States v. Nixon confirmed the Founder's intention concerning the partition of powers between branches of government.

The correct answer here is the second option.

The main issue here was the fight over the extent of executive power and whether or not president Nixon need to to hand over tape recording that the court ordered him to deliver. The Supreme Court voted that Nixon had to hand over the materials related to the Watergate investigation. After this ruling, Nixon fearing impeachment, resigned.
