Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass was one of the most impacting slave autobiographies as it was one of the first ones, and was literary-wise compelling. Caucasian readers got to read for the first time very descriptive scenarios from Douglas's life and a perspective they had never seen before. It helped them contrast their freedom, that they very likely had taken for granted, and the steep price others had to pay for theirs. Through this, many became empathetic of the abolitionist movement by gaining support from the Caucasian population.
