Considering the available options, the economic activities that would be found or that most likely would succeed in Virginia are the following:

Large-Scale Agriculture (plantation) requiring a lot of laborers and flat to gently rolling land:

 • This is evident in the fact that tobacco plantation was largely grown in the Virginia colony.

Fishing and whaling due to proximity to the ocean:

 • This is evident in the fact that various rivers and water are available in the Virginia colony.

Timbering, Pine Tar, Pitch, Sassafras (for medicine), and Potash;

 • This is evident in the fact that there are various forests in the Virginia colony.

Maple syrup and livestock products such as wool:

 • Various forests have Maple trees in Virginia and acceptable weather for raising livestock.

Industries requiring long, hot summers, shorter, cold winters:

 • This is evident in the fact that the colony of Virginia is characterized by hot summers, shorter, cold winters.

Waterways with steep drop-offs and rapids to utilize waterpower:

 • This is evident in the fact that there are various water bodies like rivers around the Virginia colony.

Glass and barrel making:

 • this is evident in the fact that the colony of Virginia originally began glass and barrel making before switching to tobacco farming later.

Hence, in this case, it is concluded that it is only the last option, "Industries that can be done with short summers, longer, colder winters," that would not succeed in the Virginia colony because the colony's climate did not support such venture.

COPYRIGHT 2003 The Gale Group, Inc.Causes of the Great DepressionThe period from 1920 to 1929 is known as the Roaring Twenties. Those years were exciting, fascinating, and entertaining for the U.S. population, whose sons had just fought and won World War I (1914–18), the war that had promised to end all wars. Everyone was enthralled with the new gasoline automobiles that Henry Ford (1863–1947) had made affordable. Women had gained the right to vote, and some had acquired new electric machines that made life easier, such as washing machines and vacuum cleaners. Every day more Americans brought a radio into their homes; the radio brought music and news that thrilled listeners. The new moving pictures captivated audiences in palace-like movie houses. Businesses and manufacturing industries continuously expanded. The prices of their stocks steadily increased through the 1920s, going on a wild ride upward between 1926 and October of 1929. Stock prices went far beyond realistic values and had little basis in the health of the companies. These skyrocketing stock prices signaled g to be

What are the pros and cons of implementing an embargo on a country? Do you think that implementing this barrier usually has a po
hammer [34]
A trade embargo is a law or policy a state initiates which prohibits or otherwise restricts the importation/exportation of goods.

Limitations on imports do protect domestic industry. If I were to say, embargoes usually create positive results, particularly in this sector. First, it increases consumption of local goods. Second, as the consumption of local goods increases, so does the demand. To satisfy the growing consumer demand, domestic producers have to produce more products. This should lead to the creation of more jobs. Third, it enhances national security. The national security of a government that heavily imports military weapons can be compromised should the exporting country restrict the export of the weapons. To prevent this from happening, a government, especially that of a developed country, tries to encourage domestic production of defense equipment. It also adopts a trade embargo or bans the importation of the equipment.

Embargoes, however, also reduces consumer choice. In many cases, businesses take advantage of the trade barriers and make cheap goods. Because the consumers have no other choice but to buy the more available domestic goods, they are forced to buy low quality goods.
