Like Beowulf, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is a hero story. Readers will see many characteristics of an epic in this story, but does this mean that Gawain is a true epic hero? Think about heroes like Beowulf, modern heroes, or who you consider a true hero. Then think about Sir Gawain’s actions, thoughts, and words. Do you think Sir Gawain is or is not a true hero?

In your response, you must explain why Gawain is or is not a hero, and use at least 2 pieces of textual evidence from the text to support your ideas.

The easiest way to answer this is figure out if you think if he is a hero or not, once you've done that think about why you think that. Lastly, go find some evidence for your ideas by quickly reading the story again.

EX: I think Gawain is a hero because ( reasons why). I believe this because (1st piece of text evidence) and also (2nd piece of textual evidence).

What is the meaning of the expression on a shoestring?
hichkok12 [17]

Answer:

on a shoestring. With very limited financial means, as in The newlyweds were living on a shoestring. The precise allusion in this term is unclear. One fanciful theory is that debtors in British prisons would lower a shoe by its laces from a window so as to collect funds from visitors or passers-by.

Bad White [126]

Read the excerpt from The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street.

As they suddenly start toward the house. In this brief fraction of a moment they take the first step toward performing a metamorphosis that changes people from a group into a mob. They begin to head purposefully across the street toward the house at the end. Steve stands in front of them. For a moment their fear almost turns their walk into a wild stampede but Steve's voice, loud, incisive and commanding, makes them stop.

STEVE

Wait a minute . . . wait a minute! Let's not be a mob!

The people stop as a group, seem to pause for a moment and then much more quietly and slowly start to walk across the street.

Which sentence from the excerpt is an example of foreshadowing?

a) As they suddenly start toward the house.

b) In this brief fraction of a moment they take the first step toward performing a metamorphosis that changes people from a group into a mob.

c) They begin to head purposefully across the street toward the house at the end.

d) The people stop as a group, seem to pause for a moment and then much more quietly and slowly start to walk across the street.

Answer:

d) The people stop as a group, seem to pause for a moment and then much more quietly and slowly start to walk across the street.

Explanation:

Foreshadowing is a technique is used to warn or predict future events.

Based on the passage, the people were marching towards a house and on their way, they were almost transformed to a mob until they are stopped by their leader who tells them that they should not turn to a mob and stops them from stampeding.

The option D is correct because it uses foreshadowing to show that they seemed to think about the  consequences of their actions should they turn to a mob, then they moved much more quietly and slowly.
