Part A.

Answer: The author includes anecdotes about accepting her brother no matter what happens.

Explanation: These anecdotes are the most central elements of the text, because they illustrate how the family "coped" with Russell's problem, denying that he needs psychiatric help, but also accepting him as he is and trying to help him survive even in his harsh circumstances.

Part B.

Answer: "Daddy, who worked in real estate, got Russell odd jobs cleaning houses newly listed on the market, but the work wasn’t steady."

Explanation: Russell's family never accepted to help him solve his mental health issue, but instead tried to adapt his living conditions to his shortcomings. In this example, Russell's father tries to give him a hand by getting him an "easy" job.

What clues show that the speakers are prepared for the group discussion? Check all that apply.
nikdorinn [45]

Answer:

-They have read and reviewed the literature that is under discussion.

-They have brought their books to use as a reference during discussion.

-They present opinions about the topic and support it with evidence from the text.

Explanation:

A speaker doesn't need to agree with other peoples' opinions or wait their turn to be prepared. However, they need to have completed the other things listed above.

Read the passage. Then, paraphrase the evidence from the passage
MariettaO [177]

"The story of Broken Chains" was written by Gary Soto. Gary Soto was born and raised in Fresno, California, the setting of many of his stories, poems, and autobiographical pieces. In his writing, Soto tries to recreate the sights and sounds of he Mexican American neighbourhood in which he grew up.

The story is about Alfonso's first date. The story presents problems like the ones many of us face. He worries a lot about how he looks, and everything seems to go wrong.

Here we have a paraphrased version of the passage shown in the question:

When he was four years old, he decided to face the situation and make it to Sandra's house, walking doubtfully and slowly as walking in the water up to his waist. His face was red by the shame. He wondered at how things could go wrong in this his first date, Sandra would probably laugh at him.
