It may be asked: How could the Soviet Government have consented to conclude a non-aggression pact with such treacherous fiends a

s Hitler and Ribbentrop? Was not this an error on the part of the Soviet Government? Of course not!
Non-aggression pacts are pacts of peace between two States. It was such a pact that Germany proposed to us in 1939. Could the Soviet Government have declined such a proposal? I think that not a single peace-loving State could decline a peace treaty with a neighboring State even though the latter was headed by such fiends and cannibals as Hitler and Ribbentrop.

Which of the following statements explains a logical fallacy in this excerpt?

A.Stalin veers off topic, distracting his audience rather than admitting he was wrong to sign the nonaggression pact. B.Stalin claims he was not wrong to pursue peace, and then he restates that same argument in different words instead of providing evidence. C.Stalin claims he was lying when he attempted to pursue peace, and then he suggests that he was in fact telling the truth. D.Stalin introduces the idea that everyone signs nonaggression pacts, suggesting that doing so was right because it was popular.

Answer:

B. Stalin claims he was not wrong to pursue peace, and then he restates that same argument in different words instead of providing evidence.

Explanation:

A logical fallacy is an error in reasoning common enough to warrant an extravagant name. Realizing how to spot and recognize misrepresentations is a precious aptitude. It can spare you time, cash, and individual pride. Formal fallacies are breakdowns by they way you state something, the thoughts are requested wrong by one way or another.

How does the conversation with her brother affect Celeste?
lesya [120]

Answer:

A. It convinces her that she must resist the teacher's punishment.

Explanation:

Aida Bortnik's short story "Celeste's Heart," tells the story of a young girl standing up for an injustice she believes is subjected to in school. The little girl Celeste finds herself standing up for what she believes is wrong for the sake of her little brother's future.

After being punished by her teacher at school, Celeste began to change when her brother asked <em>"When am I going to go to school?"</em> This made her think of <em>"him in the middle of the schoolyard, with his arm stretched out measuring the distance, the body tense, feeling cold and angry and afraid, in a line in which all the others were as small as he was."</em> This realization made her convinced that she must resist the teacher’s punishment for the sake of her little brother.

Thus, the correct answer is option A.

Read the passage.
Lana71 [14]

Answer:

Shall continue to

Explanation:

The author's claim is that students should have more recess time. That is the point he/she is trying to prove. "Without more recess time" means "if the students don't have more recess time." The answer is not 'will,' because the author is trying to prove that students are already struggling with their problems and won't get better unless they have more recess time. It is not 'might,' because that is still negative for their point that students should have more recess time to not struggle with their problems. It is 'shall continue to' because the author is proving that students are already struggling with problems and will continue to struggle without more recess time.
