  • Increase in melting point;
  • Trans- arrangements of side chains around double bonds that remains in the hydrogenated fat.

Explanation:

Vegetable oil contain significantly more double bonds than animal fat such as butter does. Unlike carbon-carbon single bonds, structures connected to carbon-carbon double bonds are unable to rotate around the bonding axis. As a result, molecules rich in double bonds aren't as malleable or stack as tightly as those with a small number of double bonds do. The spacy molecular configuration hinders the formation of intermolecular forces, such that in nature in comparison with animal fats, vegetable <em>oils</em> tend to demonstrate lower melting points.

Hydrogenating vegetable oils reduce the number of double bonds per molecule while attaching extra hydrogen atoms to carbon atoms that used to form double bonds. This process would increase the strength of intermolecular interaction, hence raising the melting point.

The hydrogenation process does not necessary convert <em>all</em> double bonds to single bonds; some double bonds remains in the molecule, preventing the rotation of structures on their sides. Double bonds in unprocessed fatty acids tend to be of the cis- configuration, with hydrogen atoms connected to the same side of the carbon-carbon double bond. The high temperature involved in the hydrogenation process (around 90 degrees Celsius) can trigger the flipping of atoms connected to these double bonds to produce trans- fatty acids with hydrogen atoms bonded to opposite sides of the double bond.

Explanation:

Vegetable oil contain a larger ratio of double bonds among all its carbon-carbon bonds than animal fat such as butter does. Consider the reaction below for which K = 78.2 atm-1. A(g) + B(g) ↔ C(g) Assume that 0.386 mol C(g) is placed in the cylinder re
borishaifa [10]

Answer:

1.65 L

Explanation:

The equation for the reaction is given as:

                        A            +            B           ⇄        C

where;

numbers of moles = 0.386 mol C  (g)

Volume =  7.29 L

Molar concentration of C = \frac{0.386}{7.29}

= 0.053 M

                        A            +            B           ⇄        C

Initial               0                           0                      0.530

Change          +x                          +x                       - x

Equilibrium      x                           x                      (0.0530 - x)

K = \frac{[C]}{[A][B]}

where

K is given as ; 78.2 atm-1.

So, we have:

78.2=\frac{[0.0530-x]}{[x][x]}

78.2= \frac{(0.0530-x)}{(x^2)}

78.2x^2= 0.0530-x

78.2x^2+x-0.0530=0

Using quadratic formula;

\frac{-b+/-\sqrt{b^2-4ac} }{2a}

where; a = 78.2 ; b = 1 ; c= - 0.0530

= \frac{-b+\sqrt{b^2-4ac} }{2a}   or \frac{-b-\sqrt{b^2-4ac} }{2a}

= \frac{-(1)+\sqrt{(1)^2-4(78.2)(-0.0530)} }{2(78.2)}  or \frac{-(1)-\sqrt{(1)^2-4(78.2)(-0.0530)} }{2(78.2)}

= 0.0204  or -0.0332

Going by the positive value; we have:

x = 0.0204

[A] = 0.0204

[B] = 0.0204

[C] = 0.0530 - x

     = 0.0530 - 0.0204

     = 0.0326

Total number of moles at equilibrium = 0.0204 +  0.0204 + 0.0326

= 0.0734

Finally, we can calculate the volume of the cylinder at equilibrium using the ideal gas; PV =nRT

if we make V the subject of the formula; we have:

V = \frac{nRT}{P}

where;

P (pressure) = 1 atm

n (number of moles) = 0.0734 mole

R (rate constant) = 0.0821 L-atm/mol-K

T = 273.15 K  (fixed constant temperature )

V (volume) = ???

V=\frac{(0.0734*0.0821*273.15)}{(1.00)}

V = 1.64604

V ≅ 1.65 L

What is the molarity of a NaCl stock used to make 750 ml of a dilute 10 mM solution if 5 ml of the concentrated solution was use
ch4aika [34]

Explanation:

The given data is as follows.

          M_{1} = 10 mM = 10 \times 10^{-3} M

          V_{1} = 750 ml,           V_{2} = 5 ml

          M_{2} = ?

Therefore, calculate the molarity of given NaCl stock as follows.

                  M_{1} \times V_{1} = M_{2} \times V_{2}

                  10 \times 10^{-3} \times 750 ml = M_{2} \times 5 ml

                   M_{2} = 1.5 M

Thus, we can conclude that molarity of given NaCl stock is 1.5 M.

ArbitrLikvidat [17]

Answer:

C. fluorine (F) and chlorine (Cl)

D. arsenic (As) and antimony (Sb)

Explanation:

In the periodic table , all the elements are arranged according to the atomic number ,

and the elements are placed in groups and periods ,

The elements with similar chemical and physical properties are placed in a common group .

The elements present in the same group have the same number of valence electrons in the valence shell  .

Hence , from the given options ,

fluorine (F) and chlorine (Cl)  belongs to group 17 with 7 valence electrons in the outermost shell .

arsenic (As) and antimony (Sb) belong to group 15 with 3 valence electrons in the outermost shell .
