It might not be a good idea as nitrogen may be needed by plants in several cellular processes and eliminating nitrogen uptake might severely impair these functions if there are no alternatives to these pathways

QUESTION 50
Cohesion, surface tension, and adhesion are the properties of water molecules that
snow_lady [41]

Answer:

enable capillarity

Explanation:

It is well known that water tends to adhere to the walls of the vessel in which it is contained. This is due to the force of adhesion which is defined as the force of attraction between unlike molecules. Cohesion is defined as the force of attraction between like molecules. In the case of a plant, cohesion of water molecules in the xylem vessels prevents the water column from breaking. The forces of adhesion, surface tension and cohesion are the basis of capillarity, that is, the rise of liquids in capillary tubes.

which of the following is a toxic waste that the kidneys excrete? a) water b) ammonia c) calcium d) all of the above
IrinaVladis [17]

Answer: (D) all of the above.

Explanation:

The kidneys remove wastes and extra water from the blood to form urine. Urine flows from the kidneys to the bladder through the ureters.

Ammonia is an extremely toxic base and its accumulation in the body would quickly be fatal. The liver contains a system of carrier molecules and enzymes which quickly converts the ammonia (and carbon dioxide) into urea (waste).

Calcium excretion in the urine is a function of the balance between the calcium load filtered by the kidneys and the efficiency of reabsorption from the renal tubules.

2. About how much of the energy contained originally in the grass is usable by the
cestrela7 [59]

Answer:

The correct option is B. 0.1

Explanation:

According to the information provided in the question, a zebra eats 10 kg of grass. This zebra is then eaten up by a lion.

Researched have shown that approximately 10% of an energy transfer is made from one trophic level to another. The rest of the energy is lost.

Hence, 10 kg of grass will give :

10/100× 10

= 1% or 1 kg of energy to the zebra

The grass will give

1/100× 10

= 0.1% or 0.1 kg of energy to the lion.
