The Battle of Stalingrad considers being one of the greatest battles in World War II that broke the myth of the Nazi (German) soldiers invincibility. The action stopped the German army progress into the Soviet Union. Adolf Hitler wanted to capture Stalingrad for its large industrial city which produced military weapons and tractors. The city was a prize for invading German army. Stalingrad also served to reach oil fields of the Caucasus.
