American Indians had their own culture and philosophy. This understanding of the world as widely misunderstood by European settlers, who always saw Native Americans as an obstacle, or even menace to their expansionary interests.

Indians quickly understood the European settlers interests and in many cases adopted a stiff opposition and conflictive attitude towards them. This would eventually lead to memorable incidents, such as the Wounded Knee Massacre, where the US army killed numerous Indians due to a misunderstanding that escalated into a fight.

There was a clear lack of understanding between both parts and both of them have a degree of responsibility for it.

Answer:

No, it was not possible to have done an effective counterattack or promote a better resistance than the one they made it. The Native Americans did what they could to fight against the European encroachment.

Explanation:

It's hard to consider historical points based on a hypothetical approach. However, in this case, it's relatively easy to consider the facts. You know, Europeans had more than just modern weapons. Beyond the shotguns, they brought with them, inside their bodies, a different and mortal weapon: germs and bacterias. Against this biological war, that it was involuntary by the European part (just happened), the Native Americans saw themselves vulnerable to diseases they didn't know how to heal.
