I need help with these questions. I've taken this test twice and so I'm leaving out the answers I already chose. These are the o

nes I've missed and don't know.
5. Which statement is true of both active transport and facilitated diffusion?
c. Both only occur in one direction
d. Both involve proteins in the cell membrane

7. Osmosis involves which of the following processes?
a. movement of water across a cell membrane
d. moment of water up a concentration gradient

10. The inner membrane of mitochondria consists of many folds. What is the purpose of this membrane?
a. Increase the surface area to allow more space for ATP synthesis
d. Decrease the surface area so substances can't diffuse in

These three I just don't remember what my answer was since it was on Friday I think.

11. Which of the following is true of eukaryotes but not of prokaryotes?
(a. They do not have membrane-bound organelles)
b. They are always single-celled
d. They must contain a nucleus

12. Semipermeable cell membranes are made of phospholipids that form a bilayer. What major benefit does this arrangement of the membrane provide to the cell?
a. The cell is able to easily change size and shape
b. Both surfaces of the membrane are nonnpermeable
(c. Both surfaces of the membrane can interact with water and other molecules)

13. When a Pacific sea horse's body loses water to its environment, which process is responsible?
a. active transport
b. osmosis
(c. endocytosis)

Thanks in advance

• Active transport and facilitated diffusion both involve cell membrane protein.

• Osmosis involves the movement of water toward the higher concentration

• Mitochondria inner membrane consist of many folds to increase the surface to allow more space for ATP synthesis.

• Prokaryotes do not contain a nucleus

• Semipermeable cell membranes are made of phospholipids that form a bilayer through this cell have greater level of structural support

• Pacific sea horse s body loses water to its environment through osmosis.

Further Explanation:

The cell membrane has an ability to control the flux of ions, amino acid, and gases, through a lipid bilayer.

The lipid bilayer is made up of phospholipids and these membranes have hydrophobic interior, a layer is selectively permeable and allow only small, non-polar molecule. large and polar molecule like glucose cant cross plasma membrane easily they require energy and carrier protein to transport.

Types of transport:

• Passive transport

• Active transport

In passive transport, movement of ions or small molecule according to their concentration gradient from higher concentration to lower concentration.

But large polar molecule or charged molecule example glucose,Na+ require carrier protein to transport charged molecule across the membrane, do not require ATP or energy to transport.

Osmosis is a process by which diffusion of water takes place through cell membrane. To maintain the structure and function of cell it is important to maintain equal concentration of solute across the cell membrane.

These are the type of solutions

• Isotonic solution:The solution in which the concentration of solute is equal to the concentration inside the cell

• Hypertonic soluuution: The solution in which the concentration of solute is higher than the concentration inside the cell

• Hypotonic solution: The solution in which the concentrationnn of solute is lower  than the concentration inside the cell

In active transport, they require ATP as well as carrier protein to transport molecule across the plasma membrane, an example of active transport is a sodium-potassium pump.

Mitochondria is present mostly in eukaryotes and not present in single celled organelle like RBC which lack nucleus.

Function of mitochondria

• Power house of cell

• TCA cycle occur in this

• Regulates membrane potential

Mitochondria is made up of two membrane outer layer and inner layer, space between the two membranes called intermembrane space, space enclosed by inner membrane is called matrix, inner membrane consists many folds to expand the surface area for ATP synthesis.

How does the composition of a typical lava dome differ from that of a typical fissure eruption?
Karolina [17]
A lava dome would most likely be composed of a very viscous lava rich in silica like a rhyolite which would cause it to dome upwards and solidify quickly rather than spread out over the surface of the earth like a fissure eruption which more likely would be like a basalt much less viscous and flowing more freely.

A good model of the cell membrane would be
Zanzabum

Answer:

B. A film of food wrap

Explanation:

The membrane is supposed to keep the contents safe inside .Not many things can enter inside and almost nothing can come outside, this being the selectively permeable nature of the membrane.

The plasma membrane, or the cell membrane, provides protection for a cell. It also provides a fixed environment inside the cell. And that membrane has several different functions. One is to transport nutrients into the cell and also to transport toxic substances out of the cell. Another is that the membrane of the cell, which would be the plasma membrane, will have proteins on it which interact with other cells. Those proteins can be glycoprotein, meaning there's a sugar and a protein moiety, or they could be lipid proteins, meaning there's a fat and a protein. And those proteins which stick outside of the plasma membrane will allow for one cell to interact with another cell. The cell membrane also provides some structural support for a cell. And there are different types of plasma membranes in different types of cells, and the plasma membrane has in it in general a lot of cholesterol as its lipid component. That's different from certain other membranes within the cell. Now, there are different plants and different microbes, such as bacteria and algae, which have different protective mechanisms. In fact, they have a cell wall outside of them, and that cell wall is much tougher and is structurally more sound than a plasma membrane is.

How is DNA replication semi-conservative
Karo-lina-s [1.5K]

Semiconservative replication would produce two copies that each contained one of the original strands and one new strand. Conservative replication would leave the two original template DNA strands together in a double helix and would produce a copy composed of two new strands containing all of the new DNA base pairs.
