The pathogen that causes aids is known as human immunodeficiency virus<span> (</span>HIV). This virus compromises the immune system by destroying T-helper cells, a type of white blood cell. By compromising the immune system, people with HIV are more at risk and vulnerable to getting sick from other diseases.
