Answer:

a. How the US takeover affects the Filipino people.

Explanation:

Both of the comments of Mark Twain and Theodore Roosevelt are concerning the American government's power over the island of Philippines. Though said in two different years, they both comment on the people of Philippines' conditions, but in a contrasting manner.

Twain talks about the negative impact of the United States' control of the island while Roosevelt's comments points out the positive outcome of the takeover. He said that the people of Philippines should be happy and appreciate the American's coming for they are now enjoying freedom which they had previously never had.

Thus, the main difference between the two comments is how the US takeover affects the Filipino people.

Answer:

to persuade the audience to share the writer's point of view

Explanation:

The writer's goal is to persuade the reader to agree and adopt the point of view he is presenting in the text. We can see this when he reinforces the idea of the importance of deciding what will be done with the available 20 acres of space and how it is even more important that this space be used for the good of the population, for the generation of jobs and the strengthening of the city, even if this decision is not easy to make. In other words, he reinforces that this unoccupied space must not remain empty, but rather be used to bring about improvements in the population. This point of view is publicized to attract supporters who agree with what the author thinks.

What is most likely a central idea about progress from the excerpt? * (1 Point) A. Society would advance a lot farther if everyo
tatyana61 [14]

The central idea shows that for progress to happen, people must burn down existing structures and move forward, as shown in option C.

Through questions similar to yours, we can see that you are referring to the section "Where I Lived, and What I Lived For" written by Thoreau in the book "Walden."

By reading this section, we can see that:

  • Thoreau believed that for society to progress, it would be necessary to abandon existing social and political structures.
  • This abandonment would promote equality in the population and allow everyone to detach themselves from material goods and any kind of wealth.
  • Thus, people would enter a state of "voluntary poverty" where they would not worry about their status and would strive to strengthen their spirits and minds, promoting individual progress, which would automatically promote social progress.

Thus, we can say that for Thoreau, progress did not walk in communion with the structures determined by society that valued wealth and social hierarchy.

Write a description, of 200 to 220 words, of a dance or music performance that you have seen either live or on screen.
EleoNora [17]

Answer:

For my paper, I think I want to write about my first concert experience, and not one of the one’s that your parent’s take you to. I want to talk about the first time I was alone with my best friends in one of the most crowded, claustrophobic, and euphoric experiences of my life. The air was so warm, and I remember every inch of me sweating like no other. My friends and I were packed like sardines towards the front of the pit. We’d stood in line for hours before. We thought we were going to be so close to the stage, which we were when we ran in. After the rest of the line that was behind us had been scanned in, the proximity that we were to the stage decreased. All of the people began to push forward and eventually go their way. As naïve and innocent freshman in high school, it seemed natural to let the people who couldn’t find their friend move to the front. Little did we know, there was an entire friend group following in suit, and our spot slowly got taken over. My friends and I were so angry. We had waited for 5 hours in the hot summer weather for our spots, and they were taken within minutes. Let me tell you, that nativity never happened again. We learned our lesson. Songs from the 90s blasted from the speakers, and the crowd sang along as we waited for our favorite bands. I think I remember singing to “Buddy Holly” by Weezer and watching my best friend sing every word. I was so amazed. I always thought I was the one in our little group who listened to all of the older music. “How in the world do you know ‘Buddy Holly’?” I asked Rachel. “My dad loves Weezer. I have no idea why, but he does,” she replied. I laughed. “Weezer is good.” I had gained my tasted in music the same way. The first time I went to bake chocolate chip cookies, now a staple in my family, my dad played artists like Aerosmith, Frank Sinatra, and Fall Out Boy. A varied mix, I know, but that was the day I figured out what kind of music I actually liked.

How does jonas personality traits affect his choices and outcomes
Allisa [31]

In Jonas's dystopian world, where everyone is the same, it is not an issue. Jonas is a typical eleven-year-old boy who is intelligent, curious, and honest, so why is the Chief Elder highlighting him at the Ceremony of Twelve? We're going to discover what makes Jonas unique in Lois Lowry's The Giver.

Jonas appears like a typical little child. Why is he chosen for a particular recognition from the crowd? Jonas is much like all the other Elevens in the neighborhood, but for his bright eyes. Jonas recently observed an odd occurrence with an apple, but he chose to keep it to himself.

Before the Ceremony of Twelve, when he will receive his adult work assignment and become a citizen-in-training, he is cautious to perform all of his compulsory service hours. As a result, he is astonished when the Chief Elder skips over him at the ceremony.

What went wrong with him? For Jonas to be in this embarrassing situation, he must have done something bad.

The Chief Elder returns to Jonas when the ritual is over. Jonas has been chosen to serve as our next Receiver of Memory, the Chief Elder said. Then he overheard every one of the seated folks gasping, their breath coming in suddenly and quickly in shock. When he saw their faces, their awed eyes expanded.

In this instant, Jonas recognizes his uniqueness from others. The committee believes that Jonas is a strong candidate for the most revered, though somewhat feared, role in the community because he possesses the qualities of intelligence, integrity, courage, the capacity to become wise through training, and the capacity to See Beyond. No one has been appointed to this role in ten years.
