I don't have the entire answer, but I do know that the freedom of the state (as in acceptance towards people of color) and the several gold rushes and general resource deposits in California drew in pioneers, gold panners, and simple citizens looking to settle down in a high income area.
The Allies were fighting against the Central Powers, or the Axis powers, and one of the main of those was Germany, so Germany was definitely not a part of the Allies (the rest was though).
Urbanization and industrialization have a very close relationship with each other. The economy grew due to industrialization and with it, the rise of cities as more moved from farms to cities because of the growth of industries that also provided employment that spurred the migration to urban areas. Even though working conditions were not good, the lure of good pay led to an increase of urbanization as more factories grew in the cities
